William Finnegan's memoir chronicling his obsession with surfing
from his boyhood in Los Angeles and Hawaii
to his adult life as an aging journalist in Manhattan is poetic, but long.
The earlier chapters depicting his youth in the 60s when parenting was carefree, bordering on neglectful, were my favorite.
