RACISM

Never before have we had a man in the white house
who has been less of a leader or unifier than Trump.
FDR said the presidency was a place for moral leadership so how did we elect man who has no morals or ability to lead?
Complimenting her husband's character, Michelle O'bama famously said,
"Being President doesn't change who you are, it reveals who you are."
Truer words have never been spoken.
The disgruntled Trump who regretted reading a prescribed speech condemning the White Supremacists at Charlottesville quickly did an about face.
His racist, separatist views could not have been more transparent as a press conference
about infrastructure went off the rails.
This is a dark turning point in American history.
This unscrupulous man has single handedly embolden those who wore hoods and hid in the shadows
to come forward with clubs and torches illuminating their faces.
In the bright light of day they had the audacity to denounce Jews, blacks, homosexuals and women.
Even more terrifying is their agenda to protest in liberal and diverse cities like Berkeley and Laguna
There will be no resting.
We must join forces to eradicate the evil this imbecile helped to unleash.

Grounded

For two weeks, a  lingering cold and and a colonoscopy,
kept me off the hiking trail.
Tonight was a perfect night to step away from work and tread over dirt paths I travel frequently.
The earth grounds me, as does familiar terrain so
the combination soothed me like a warm homecoming.
The harsh August light ebbed slowly into evening.
I watched the air over the Pacific get dense and gray,
while softer pinks radiated from the setting sun.
These hikes are my meditation, the sands in my hourglass.
I can never take for granted their significance, these granules of time, foot contacting hiking trail, for the sum of these moments gives my life magnitude.
