Maskless

According to the CDC, if you are fully vaccinated and socially distanced masks are no longer required outdoors.  It felt downright deviant hiking without my protective face covering today.  It also felt incredibly liberating and a step in the right direction.

Ditched the Dye

It's been 15 months since I've colored my roots.  Although the many blog posts I've read about going gray have stated the journey takes close to 24 months, I'm shocked my silver strands aren't longer.  I'm also conflicted that I'm not more gray.  I was hopping for more silver than salt and pepper.  After six months, it was time for cut.  Lost several inches of dry, split ends.  I'm ready for my next zoom meeting.

Double Vaxxed

Sometimes I still feel like I'm living in a dystopian novel especially since Dodger Stadium remains a medical facility and I tackle most work days from bed.  I have no idea how we will unfurl from this pandemic, but I do know that today is a momentous one.  I'm double vaxxed, prepared for whatever symptoms may surface in the next 72 hours, and eagerly awaiting a social calendar that isn't driven by new streaming drops.  Hallelujah!

The Pacific

Our social lives remain contained to hikes, strolls, farmers markets and infrequent backyard gatherings.  A drive to the ocean always feels like a glass of cold lemonade when life is particularly lemony so today we did just that.  An Erewhon picnic under a shady tree in Palisades Park followed by a beach walk was the idyll way to spend the day, Covid times or not.

Amy Sherald

Amy Sherald documents contemporary African-American experience in the United States through arresting, otherworldly portraits. Sherald subverts the medium of portraiture to tease out unexpected narratives, inviting viewers to engage in a more complex debate about accepted notions of race and representation, and to situate black heritage centrally in the story of American art.
