Beaufiul Foggy Morning

Week two started with Mad Whip's photo taken on the streets of Chicago, and
ended with my snapshot of phone lines against a cloud smudged Hollywood sky.

Sign of The Times

Beautiful sunset hike equipped with only my iphone, too gorgeous to let the moment pass.

Mesmerized by the stark silhouettes against the blazing sky,

I snapped.

Only later did I realize, and chuckle, that I captured the undeniable pose of someone taking a selfie.

 The historical significance of the selfie is too early to define.

I admit I cringe when I see teens or tourists or anyone for that matter obsessively taking photos of themselves. 

Yes, I am overly sensitive to narcissism, but is this a positive global trend? 

What will become of these often banal digital images?

  Unlike other forms of portraiture they are not motivated by artistic expression,

but by making a stamp in life's daily passport which is often shared online.

This is where I am.  This is what I look like today.

Look at me.

As technology and platforms evolve so will the selfie,

and with it will come a perspective that I can't fully glean today.

Fed Up

Diagnosed with hypoglycemia at 18,

I've had an acute awareness of the drug-like effects sugar has on the body and brain.

The information in this documentary is disturbing, 

not because it reinforces that sugar is addictive and as destructive as cocaine,

but because the government, due to pressure from lobbyists, has ignored

this information and let our food standards slip to a level 

that is literally killing our children.

Week One completed!

Playing this fun game with Mad Whip

has sparked my creativity.

I love anticipating her daily ping from instagram,

motivating my next photo.

I'll go out with my camera, concepts in mind,

but often the picture finds me.

This is the story we told this week
prompted by my photo of a blooming shrub on a street in the Hollywood Hills.
