If I had a bucket full of extra cash lying around and I could only spend it on a photograph at the Paris Photo Los Angeles fair I may very well have purchased one of Hiroshi Sugimoto's works from his series Theaters. This series has been a work in progress since the 1970s when the artist had the notion to capture an entire film in a single shot. The
exposure time of the photograph corresponds with the projection
time of the film. What remains visible of the film’s
time-compressed, individual images is the bright screen of the movie
theater, which illuminates the architecture of the space.
