The
casa particular in Vinales I had written down was difficult to find, and when we
did locate it, full. Frank was ready for the journey to be over and got
snippy with us, unwilling to drive us around to find new
accommodations. On a gravel road off the main street we unloaded our
bags and were at the mercy of a local who said he had a cousin with a
vacant casa. Lila and Yuki, mother and daughter, were the light at the
end of the tunnel. Behind Lila's house was a recently built petite casa
with a spectacular rooftop view. Lila cooked us a delicious dinner and
we went into town for live music and salsa dancing. In Havana we were
undecided how long we'd stay in Vinales, but after tonight we committed to three more evenings in this sleepy, verdant valley.
