The Getty Villa
It's been on my list of local things to do, and today I finally made it to The Getty Villa. The spectacular grounds in the Palisades appealed to me more than the antiquities. I felt as if I slipped away to the Italian coast for a few hours. Originally part of the J. Paul Getty estate, the villa was opened in 1974 to house the oil tycoon's growing antiquities collection. In 1997 it closed for 8 years during an extensive 275-million renovation and transformation. Both Getty museums bring a class and sophistication to Los Angeles on par with other great cities.

I have never been to this Getty either. If only the Getty art collections matched their primo real estate -- or your fabulous photos.
ReplyDeleteHave you been to the tile-embedded Adamson House just up the road? That is worth a tour.
I've always wanted to go to the Adamson house. It's on the list. Actually, the main Getty does have an amazing photo collection. The recent Herb Ritts exhibit was fantastic.
