Elaine had not intended to wait until the last minute
to assemble her costume for the Jazz Party on Governor's Island,
but the week raced by like a track star sprinting to the finish.
Attending was her boyfriend Scott's idea.
Four months into their relationship she didn't want to dismiss his suggestion,
especially since her last boyfriend never took initiative.
So that's why she found herself, late last night, rummaging through forgotten clothes
and sewing flowers on a bell shaped hat.
Tim Gunn's, "make it work" was on a loop in her head
as she added and subsequently edited elements.
When Scott showed up looking handsome in his vintage suit and boater hat,
she was rewarded for making the effort.
