I used to get inundated with JUST scripts,

but the trend of developing TV series based on IP

has resulted in an incessant flood of books sent by agents.

Truthfully, I've lost count of how many books, unpublished manuscripts and scripts I read a week.

I still try to read for pleasure but fewer and fewer titles fall under this category.

Some days I take a break from reading by listening to a book.

Crazy, I know, but there are only so many hours in a day

and the landscape is VERY competitive.

At least the audio versions allow for a hike or an hour cooking in the kitchen 

while I'm still crossing off a title on my to read list.

Sometimes the words in my head; other people's visions and opinions about the world

make my mind numb.

I'll stumble stringing words together.

Only silence remedies the madness and creates space for my own thoughts to seep through.
